Canning Line Machine Control and Process Automation
Our client approached us requiring a control and process automation solution for a new canning line project. This canning line was to be capable of labelling, filling, seaming and quality checking 25 cans per minute.
Control Requirements Included:
- Variable Speed Conveyor Control
- Motor Control
- 16 Pneumatic Solenoids
- 24 Feed Back Sensors
- Load Cell Weight Measurement
- Remote Command Panel
- Safety Interlock
- Stainless Steel Enclosures
The control panel and command panel, were designed and manufactured in house to integrate with the clients proposed, sensors, motors, load cell and pneumatic actuators.
HMI screens were designed and software written to allow full control over all commissioning parameters, and easy user set-up and operation of the canning line.
Once on-site our engineers were able to commission the control system, systematically testing each input and output before writing a bespoke program for the VIPA Miro PLC to control the process incorporating:
- Labeller Trigger control
- Can Flow control
- Fill timing control
- CO2 dosing control
- Can weight quality measurement
- Automated rejection on missing lid, or target weight deviation.
- Emergency Stop Safety Circuit
- CIP Clean In Place
- Fault Diagnostics
