Lime Powder Silos and Lime Slurry Level Measurement
Application problem:
The client was experiencing intermittent problems with radar transmitters on two vessels, measuring Lime Powder in the silo and Lime Slurry in the makeup vessel.
The lime powder is conveyed from the delivery truck into the silo via pneumatics. Conveying via airline causes friction and causes a small increase in temperature in the silo, resulting in condensation in the top of the silo.
Transducers mounted in the top of the vessel will be coated in lime powder that solidifies over time, causing the radar transmitter and high level probe to prematurely fail.
Solution:
The radar was replaced with low frequency Acoustic Transducers in the silo and makeup vessel. Acoustic technology is self-cleaning, the high amplitude pressure waves it produces with each pulse, stops the build-up of powder on the transducer diaphragm. A focalizer cones aids the self-cleaning ability and narrows the beam angle.
The Lime silo required the more powerful 10Khz transducer, to maintain continuous level control. During blow filling the turbulence and high dust levels create a challenging environment.
The Lime makeup vessel was smaller in depth a 20Khz transducer was used, to counter build-up and froth/foam floating on the slurry surface.
Both transducers remain clean of build-up in the focalizer cone and on the diaphragm.
Both transducers remain clean of buildup in the focalizer cone and on the diaphragm.
